Cyprus
A new destination for our Hallmark Collection programme, but one which needs little introduction to discerning travellers who appreciate the quality to be found in the island’s excellent 4 and 5 star hotels. We are delighted to include a selection of the best in the well known resorts of Paphos, Larnaca, Limassol, and Ayia Napa.
Just over 4 hours away from the UK by air, Cyprus has been a favourite haunt for British holidaymakers for many years due to its historic ties with the UK, the friendly welcome of its residents and its year round sunshine. Delicious food, ease of communication (many Cypriots speak perfect English) and familiar driving on the left have all contributed to the island’s popularity.
Paphos is steeped in history and boasts several ancient monuments including the famous Tombs of the Kings. It has vibrant night-life, 3 golf courses in the vicinity, excellent shopping, a traditional market in the old town, and a picturesque fishing harbour with lots of typical restaurants. The coastline is mainly rocky with sandy coves.
Limassol, about an hour’s drive to the east from Paphos, is known for its ancient castle and square with restaurants and pavement cafés. A long beach is backed by many superb hotels, and other facilities include a range of water-sports and a waterpark. There is a good choice of bars, restaurants and night clubs.
Further to the east lies Larnaca, whose international airport is one of the main gateways to the island. Most of the town’s hotels and tourist apartments are located to the east of the town alongside the beach, whilst Larnaca centre has a famous mile-long tree-lined promenade, now pedestrianised. An attractive yacht marina lies at one end, with the shopping and commercial centre just inland. Migratory flamingos can be spotted at the salt lake about 4 kms away to the south west, close to the ancient Mosque of Hala Sultan Tekke.
About an hour’s drive from Larnaca Airport, the long white sandy beaches of Ayia Napa come into view, fronting crystal clear blue Mediterranean waters. Once a dreamy fishing village, Ayia Napa has developed into an international playground for visitors of all ages, offering chic shopping, a variety of restaurants and street cafés, and vibrant night life.
For a more cultural aspect, there’s a 16th century monastery, a pretty harbour, and a lively town square to visit.
